CBM is an international Christian development organisation devoted to improving the lives of people with disabilities in the poorest places on earth. Poverty and disability go hand in hand creating a cycle of inequality, isolation and exclusion that leads to the most extreme forms of poverty.
Through our 110 year history and over 30 years in Australia, we have developed proven community based programs that help millions of people benefit from real, lasting change.
Here at CBM, we are devoted to transforming the lives of the world's most overlooked, and neglected people - just as Jesus did when He was on earth. As an international Christian development organisation, CBM has been following Jesus' example of inclusion, hope and justice in our work for over 110 years. Our Christian faith is founded in love and love never gives up. That's what underpins our determination to reach those who are the hardest to reach, invisible and forgotten, leaving no-one behind.
In 2016 our work involved:
- 628 Projects funded
- 28,233,063 People receiving services
- 59 Countries
- 373 Partners
Health, medical care and rehabilitation:
CBM works with local partners to prevent and treat avoidable causes of blindness such as cataract, river blindness and trachoma, and treat conditions like club foot to avoid permanent impairment.
Equality and opportunity:
Our work opens the door for people with disability to gain an education, open a business, earn a living, make friends and be part of their community, often for the first time in their lives.
Influencing and advocacy:
Positive societal change happens when people with disability are free from unfair obstacles. This means changing attitudes, beliefs as well as physical environments, systems and policies.
CBM's proven approach means we work with partners to amplify our impact, creating a ripple effect that extends the reach of our message far beyond what would be possible on our own. Our partnerships exist at both a grassroots and strategic level so that we can be a catalyst for making immediate and lasting change possible. This includes partnering with local community organisations, NGOs, and governments, bringing the best possible combination of CBM's international resources together with deeply relevant local knowledge, relationships and influence.
