The word ‘Mukti’ which translated from Sanskrit means freedom, liberation and salvation, reflects the origin of Mukti Australia’s work, which began in India over 128 years ago.
Today, our mission is to create opportunities for disadvantaged women and children in India and Sri Lanka to have real hope and meaningful lives that realise their God-given potential.
Mukti works with disadvantaged women and children from all backgrounds regardless of religion or cast, seeking to empower those who have been:
- Orphaned or abandoned
- Those living with intellectual and physical disabilities or mental illness
- Unwed and single mothers
- Women who have been caught up in the sex trade and their children.
Our work seeks to support and empower these women and children through education, training, health and holistic care. Mukti works alongside them to create opportunities which will enable them to lift themselves out of poverty and live meaningful lives of hope, safety and empowerment.
